The writer of the book of Hebrews had the love of a Pastor. He has to speak of hard, difficult things at times, but he never wanted to leave the people downcast or discouraged. He wanted to bring encouragement, too. That is exactly what he does in the passage before us this morning! He says to them, "But, beloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things that accompany salvation..." Remember that he has just contrasted the "those" (vs. 4) and the "you" (vs. 9. The "you" were those who have not "fallen away" (vs. 6). They have remained faithful to Christ.; they are saved and enjoy the "better things" - things that "accompany salvation." The question before us is, "What did the writer see in their lives that gave him a strong CONVICTION that they were truly saved and were not like those who fell away?"
